Plenty of people come for the most celebrated residents of Reelfoot Lake: the bald eagles that settle in for winter. They come here for the same reason many human visitors do — for the fishing. "It's an excellent place for them to feed," says Jerry Hall, a park ranger at the Visitor Center at the south end of the lake. Hall says a small flock of eagles lives here year-round; during winter about 200 bald eagles stay at Reelfoot Lake until the weather warms up, he says.
