THE NEWS: With the race for the presidency revving up, political activists on both sides of the equation are becoming more engaged. They're watching debates, attending rallies and, more than ever, speaking up online.
THE PROVOCATION: It doesn't seem so long ago that Howard Dean revolutionized the way political campaigns are run by using the Internet to build up an impressive network of supporters. Indeed, it wasn't. The year was 2003, and Dean was parlaying small donations that averaged just under $80 into a political juggernaut that was only derailed by the candidate's own big mouth (the infamous "Dean Scream" following his third-place finish in the Iowa caucuses).
